Installation Instructions
Step 1 - Remove the Weather Strip
Open the vehicle’s tailgate to access the weather strip. Using a Phillips head screwdriver and a trim removal tool, unscrew and remove the four rivet clips securing the strip. Then, use a 10mm socket to remove the two bolts holding it in place. Pull the strip away from the vehicle to remove it.
Step 2 - Remove the Fender Flare and Lower Trim
Rotate the five locking tabs inside the fender well to release the fender flare. Once unlocked, pull the flare away from the vehicle. Next, remove the lower trim panel by releasing the top tabs and pulling the panel away from the vehicle.
Step 3 - Uninstall the OEM Tail Lamp
Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolt below the tail lamp and the side bolt securing it. Disconnect the tail lamp harness by pressing the locking tab and pulling up. Use an 8mm socket to remove the two bolts securing the lamp. Hold the lamp as you remove the bolts to prevent it from falling, and pull the lamp away from the vehicle to detach it.
Step 4 - Install the Third Brake Light Harness (Halogen Only)
For halogen models, use a trim removal tool to release the four tabs on the large tailgate trim panel. Remove the panel, then disconnect the OEM third brake light harness. Route the included third brake light harness labeled “C” through the tailgate, following the factory harness. Secure the harness with zip ties, and route the leads to the corresponding tail lamp locations.
Step 5 - Connect Wiring and Install the New Tail Lamp
For halogen models, connect the pre-installed resistor to the lamp using the two gray plugs. To disable the startup sequence, disconnect the yellow wire labeled “A.” To enable the red turn signal function, disconnect the purple wire labeled “B.” Connect the harness labeled “C” to the lamp, and then plug in the OEM tail lamp harness. Insert the new tail lamp into place and secure it using the two 8mm bolts.
Step 6 - Repeat and Reassemble
Repeat the process for the opposite side. Reassemble all trim panels and components, ensuring a secure fit. For halogen models, program the lamps by leaving the vehicle and lights off and holding the brake pedal for three seconds. Test the functionality of all tail light features.
